Appliance supply line failure saturates Cincinnati, OH

A supply line failure at this Banks Road home allowed water to spread across 344 square feet — saturating hardwood floors in the dining area, destroying flooring through the hallway transition, wicking under kitchen cabinetry, and exposing the subfloor through multiple rooms. H2O Restoration responded fast, extracted standing water, removed all damaged flooring, and documented the full scope for the insurance claim.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

WHAT HAPPENED

A supply line failure — likely at the dishwasher or refrigerator connection — released water across the kitchen tile and into the adjoining dining area and hallway of this Banks Road home, saturating the hardwood floors throughout the dining room (11'3" × 11'4"), destroying the flooring transition through the hallway (2'8" × 4'10"), and wicking moisture under the kitchen island cabinetry and along the base of the wood-paneled walls; by the time H2O Restoration arrived, the subfloor was fully exposed in the hallway and transition zones, harvested hardwood planks had already buckled and been pulled, and the kitchen island top had been stripped to raw framing — confirming the water had spread well beyond what was initially visible and required a full moisture-mapping assessment before any drying could begin.
Water had migrated beyond the kitchen tile into the hardwood dining area and through the hallway transition — reaching subfloor concrete in multiple rooms. Proper documentation of the full migration path from the floor plan measurements ensured the complete 344 sq ft scope was covered under the claim.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE DAMAGE

Our process

Work completed

1

Emergency response — on site within 59 minutes

Crew arrived to find water that had migrated from the kitchen across the tile threshold into the dining area hardwood and through both hallway transitions. Standing water was extracted and moisture readings established a baseline across all four affected zones — kitchen, dining area, hallway, and both transition points — before any equipment was staged.

2

Flooring removal — hardwood, transition strips, and island top

Buckled and saturated hardwood planks throughout the dining area were removed and stacked for disposal. Both hallway transition strips were pulled, exposing concrete subfloor beneath. The kitchen island countertop was stripped to raw wood framing to allow the cabinetry base to dry. The dishwasher was disconnected and removed to access the supply line failure point at the wall.

3

Moisture mapping and source confirmation

A wall cutout at the base of the kitchen revealed the supply line failure point, wet insulation, and moisture wicking up into the wood-panel wall framing. Moisture readings were taken at the subfloor, wall base, and cabinetry toe-kicks throughout all four zones. The full 344 sq ft footprint was documented against the floor plan and submitted to the adjuster.

4

Structural drying across all affected spaces

Air movers were distributed across the kitchen, dining area, and hallway, targeting the exposed subfloor concrete and wall base in all zones. A commercial dehumidifier was staged centrally. The OSB temporary barrier was installed in the hallway doorframe to contain the drying environment. Moisture readings were logged daily until all readings reached the dry standard.

5

Daily monitoring and insurance documentation

Moisture readings were tracked daily across all contact points. Before-and-after photo documentation, the floor plan with room dimensions, and a complete adjuster-ready scope of work — covering flooring removal, subfloor drying, plumbing repair, and full rebuild including hardwood, tile transition, island top, and cabinetry — were submitted to the carrier.

H2O Restoration handles both mitigation and full reconstruction — hardwood floor replacement, tile transitions, kitchen island rebuild, cabinetry, and paint — so the homeowner works with one team from the first call through the final walkthrough.

A claim that covered more than it first appeared.

The initial visible scope was a wet kitchen floor. Moisture mapping and floor plan documentation confirmed water had migrated into the dining area, both hallway transitions, and the wall cavity at the supply line — expanding the true scope to 344 sq ft. Detailed room measurements and photo evidence of each zone ensured the full claim was approved.

I called H2O after finding water all over my kitchen floor and had no idea it had already gotten under the hardwood in the dining room too. They came out right away, checked everything, and showed me exactly where the water had gone. They pulled the floors, set up their equipment, and handled the whole insurance thing from start to finish. Honestly made a really stressful situation a lot easier to deal with.
