Emergency response — standing water across both zones
Crew arrived to find standing water across all 603 sq ft of the basement. Both the storage/hobby room and the workshop had active water on the floor, with the sump pit confirmed as overwhelmed. Contents in the storage room were at immediate risk — shelving units, bins, boxes, and artwork were all in contact with the water at floor level.
Contents assessment and documentation
All at-risk floor-level contents were documented prior to extraction. The storage area contained extensive personal items including plastic storage bins, cardboard boxes, artwork canvases, tools, and a built-in MDF workbench with a visible waterline showing absorption at the base. All contents were inventoried and photographed for the insurance claim.
Full water extraction — both basement zones
Truck-mount and portable extractors removed standing water from the storage room, workshop, and mechanical/utility zone. Water was traced to the floor-wall joint along the foundation perimeter. The floor field was extracted in full, including under shelving and workbench bases where water had pooled.
Structural drying across all spaces
Low-profile air movers and LGR dehumidifiers were distributed throughout both basement zones. Equipment was staged along the perimeter walls and under built-in shelving to target the floor slab and wall base assemblies. Daily moisture readings were taken across all zones to confirm drying progress and prevent secondary mold growth on the wooden shelving and workbench framing.
Daily monitoring and insurance documentation
Moisture readings were logged at each visit across both zones. Before-and-after photo documentation, a moisture mapping report, and a complete adjuster-ready scope were submitted to the carrier. Contents documentation included the MDF workbench waterline, saturated cardboard, and all floor-level items in the storage area at the time of loss.
