WHAT HAPPENED

Groundwater entered this custom-built indoor sport court in Hebron, KY through the foundation wall and floor joints — likely during or after a period of heavy rainfall — and filled the entire 743 sq ft space with standing water. The room measures 21'5" × 27'4" and was purpose-built as a private basketball and fitness space, featuring vinyl plank sport flooring, painted CMU block walls, and a carpeted entry step-down. The water reflected clearly off the court surface and covered the full floor from wall to wall, with the basketball hoop base and its reflection visible in the standing water across multiple photos. Sports equipment including exercise balls, a medicine ball, and a baseball glove were present on the floor at the time of the loss. Because the water source was clean groundwater, the intrusion was classified as Category 1 — meaning the flooring and structure had a strong chance of being saved if extraction and drying were completed quickly. H2O Restoration arrived within 59 minutes, extracted all standing water, assessed the vinyl plank flooring and carpeted entry for moisture infiltration, and deployed drying equipment to bring the structure back to dry standard without requiring full flooring replacement.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE DAMAGE

Our process

Work completed

1

Emergency response — on site within 59 minutes

Crew arrived to find standing water covering the full 743 sq ft of the court and carpeted entry. The water was even and wall-to-wall — consistent with groundwater entering through the foundation joints rather than a single pipe or drain source. The entry source was identified and initial moisture readings were taken across the court floor, CMU walls, and entry carpet.

2

Full water extraction

Truck-mounted and portable extraction units removed all standing water from the court surface and carpeted entry area. The vinyl plank sport flooring was inspected for delamination and edge swelling — early extraction gave the flooring a strong chance of recovery without replacement.

3

Structural drying — slab, flooring, and walls

Low-profile air movers were placed along the court perimeter to drive airflow across the vinyl plank surface. LGR dehumidifiers managed ambient humidity in the enclosed space. Concrete drying mats were used at the most saturated sections of the slab to accelerate moisture draw from below the flooring layer. CMU wall moisture levels were monitored daily.

4

Daily moisture monitoring

Technicians returned each day to log moisture readings across the court floor, slab perimeter, CMU walls, and carpeted entry. Equipment was adjusted as readings improved. All daily readings were documented for the insurance claim file.

5

Insurance documentation

A complete moisture mapping report, before-and-after photo documentation of the flooded court, daily drying logs, and an adjuster-ready scope of work were submitted to the homeowner's carrier. The Category 1 classification and rapid response timeline were documented to support the claim for flooring preservation over replacement.

Category 1 classification matters for your claim

Clean water intrusions classified as Category 1 give insurance adjusters and homeowners more options — including flooring preservation rather than automatic replacement. Our documentation clearly established the water source, the rapid extraction timeline, and the daily drying progress, giving the carrier everything needed to process the claim accurately.

"We built that sport court for the kids and when I saw it completely underwater I didn't think we'd save the floor. H2O was there so fast and they knew exactly what to do. They got all the water out the same day, set up their equipment, and came back every day until it was dry. The floor made it. Couldn't be happier."
